Rev. Dr. Marin Luther King Memorial

MLK Park & Memorial

The newest edition to the Chester park system is the Martin Luther King Jr. Park, which was completed in June 2005. Located just south of the J. Lewis Crozer library at 6th and Engle Streets, this quiet green space has been developed in honor the memory of Dr. King and serves as an area for passive recreation, quiet contemplation and peaceful gatherings.

MLK Park was made possible through the assistance of State Senator Dominic Pileggi, who provided financial assistance in terms of a grant; Mr. Jim Harper, Sr., Business Manager of Laborer's Local 413, and the volunteer efforts of Local 413, Operating Engineer Local 542, Cement Finishers Local 592, and the IBEW Local 654 completed approximately 60% of the infrastructure.

The second phase of MLK Park will include the casting and installation of a bronze bust of Dr. King created by renowned sculptor Zenos Frudakis, which will take place in the spring of 2010.
